finding a venue for valour games
The biggest barrier to establishing Valour Games was finding a space in the centre of Edinburgh large enough to accommodate twelve 6′ x 4′ gaming tables at a rent a social enterprise like Valour Games could afford.
a partnership with myEdinburgh
We reached out to Challenges Worldwide, an Edinburgh-based charity. Through our early discussions with them, we were introduced to The Bakery space, a former commercial bakery in the heart of Edinburgh, renovated in 2024 and transformed into a multipurpose community space as part of MyEdinburgh.
The Bakery is an ideal setting for wargaming, and after meeting with the MyEdinburgh team, we were delighted by their support for Valour Games and what we are trying to achieve.
In spring 2026, we signed a partnership agreement with MyEdinburgh, and Valour Games became a reality. Without their support, Valour Games would still be a dream, and the wargaming community would still be without a permanent hub in Edinburgh.
why valour games is a pop-up
The Bakery is a shared space. During the working week, the space is used by charities, social enterprises and other community organisations for meetings, training sessions, small conferences and other events. These organisations rarely wanted to use The Bakery in the evenings or on the weekends. In contrast, Valour Games only needs the space in the evenings and on the weekends.
Valour Games’ pop-up format means that The Bakery is used when it would otherwise be empty, but when we are not there, there is no trace of Valour Games, and we don’t get in the way of other organisations using the same space.
Valour Games benefits from having a beautiful, bright space right in the heart of Edinburgh, where gamers can come together to play, connect with each other and build community. MyEdinburgh benefits from a regular income stream that supports their work while still enabling other groups to use the space.
All the money Valour Games pays to use The Bakery goes to MyEdinburgh and helps support their charitable work. Please visit MyEdinburgh’s website to learn more about the brilliant work they do.
